In His Own Words

When I was a teenager, I took a class at a community college about interpreting the sci-fi & fantasy book genres. It was there that I learned how famous sci-fi authors like Arthur C. Clarke and Philip K. Dick came up with their stories and the themes behind them. Because of this class, I became more interested in reading and writing sci-fi stories, later starting to coming up with my own ideas for what eventually became the Mech War For Humanity universe. I took what I enjoyed from my hobbies and combined it with my research in advancements with the latest technology related to robots, AI and other areas of high-tech applications.

Even while working on my bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and biotech research work after graduation, I continued to think about and plan my Mech War For Humanity series. I spent most of my time writing notes of my ideas about my characters, storylines, and fictional technology, eventually starting to write rough drafts of my chapters.

Here’s what I do to help with my creative ebb and flow:

1. Lots of reading, both novels and articles online related to the topic.
2. Practice writing; chapter structure and dialogue to be specific. I try not to worry about aiming for a certain word count per day, so long as I achieve what I want for my sessions.
3. Enhance the creative palette from hobbies such as video games, TV shows and movies. I get a lot of my ideas from them, like watching my favorite anime, listening to music to visualize my characters and scenes, etc. I will then come up with my own ideas from them!
4. Read Stephen King’s “On Writing”.
5. Find a good environment for reading and writing. Music helps a lot too!
